This neighbourhood may be considered by some, to be the “Shire” of North Vancouver. It is surrounded by forest and has the historic Hastings Creek running through it. With the 15 hectare Princess Park itself as the centerpiece, this quiet and entirely residential neighbourhood filled with child-friendly cul-de-sacs, is a highly desirable area in which to live.
Homes are typically 20 to 50 years old with some still maintained in their original condition, while others have had upgrades and additions. This neighbourhood and others around it are served by three schools.
Lonsdale Avenue, one of the main commercial centres of North Vancouver, is easily reached via Osborne Avenue giving residents access to the fabulous Queensdale Market and also the Queens Cross Pub across the street, just above the upper levels highway.
Princess Park itself, the namesake of the neighbourhood, wasn’t always a park. It was a popular area for owners to run their dogs and in the 1950s, Hastings Creek was dammed creating a pool of water which drew crowds on hot days despite the water being murky and cold. Today, it is a formal park with open grassy areas (dogs are restricted to wooded areas), two playgrounds, two tennis courts, a public washroom, and trails along greenbelts for walking.
